Self-compassion

99-SECOND READ

'You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.'

Sophia Bush.

Self-compassion is a secret weapon.

This is what it means:

  • Not judging yourself.

  • Treating yourself with kindness, understanding, and acceptance, especially in moments of difficulty or when reflecting on your life so far.

  • Acknowledging your own humanity, being mindful of your emotions, and offering yourself the same warmth and support you would extend to a friend.

  • Accepting your imperfections, inadequacies and limitations.

  • Choosing to focus on the fact that you've tried your best, choosing to see the good in yourself

This is how it will benefit you:

  • Enhanced Well-being: By treating ourselves with kindness, we create a more positive emotional environment. Self-compassion allows us to navigate challenges with resilience and positivity, reducing feelings of anxiety and overwhelm.

  • Greater Self-Esteem: Embracing self-compassion can lead to increased overall mental well-being. It helps break the cycle of self-criticism, creating a more optimistic and empowered mindset.

  • Increased Resilience: Life is full of ups and downs, and self-compassion provides a sturdy foundation for navigating setbacks. It encourages us to see them as lessons or experienced rather than failures.

  • Better Relationships: When we treat ourselves with kindness, we are better equipped to extend that compassion to others. This creates a ripple effect, fostering healthier and more positive connections with those around us.

  • Boosted Motivation and Productivity: Contrary to the belief that self-compassion promotes complacency, it actually fuels motivation. By acknowledging our imperfections without harsh judgment, we become more motivated to pursue our goals. We believe that we deserve to achieve them!

How to Cultivate Self-Compassion

  1. Be aware of your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Mindfulness allows you to observe your experiences with a sense of curiosity and openness.
  2. Remember that everyone faces challenges and makes mistakes. Recognizing our shared humanity helps us feel less isolated in our struggles.
  3. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend. Offer words of encouragement and understanding, particularly in moments of difficulty.
  4. Embrace the idea that perfection is unattainable. Instead of striving for perfection, focus on progress and learning from each experience.

Remember, you deserve the same compassion you readily offer to others. Take a moment this evening to consider the things you like and love about yourself. If you find it difficult to do this, that's a sign that you might want to practice self-compassion more often.

'I had a true breakthrough session with Simon. In just our first session together, he was able to identify the root fears blocking me and through his thought-provoking questions helped me come up with a solution to break that pattern.

I wasn't expecting this level of breakthrough in my first session with him, but was very pleasantly surprised! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM to help unlock your highest potential!'
