Don't be a husk

'We fail to enjoy the sacred moment, when we overwork.'

Lailah Gifty Akita.

Ever feel like you’re just a shell of yourself by the time you get home from work? You’re not alone!

As my client said a few weeks ago: I don’t want to be a husk when I get home - my wife doesn’t want a husk. Nobody does!

Avoid the Husk Zone

It’s easy to get caught striving to meet every demand and saying “yes” to everything at work. You constantly push yourself to the limit. You end up drained, stressed, and unavailable. Your colleagues might be thrilled, but here’s the kicker: when you overwork, you risk turning into a husk by the time you’re with your loved ones. And let's face it, no one wants a husk for a partner or parent!

Remember, it's not about pleasing everyone at work. It's about balancing your professional aspirations with your personal life.

Your Family Wants the Vibrant, Happy, Healthy Version of YOU.

Sure, we all want to succeed and provide for our families. But if you think endless work hours are what your family needs, think again. They’d prefer a happy, present version of you over a burnt-out husk any day! Believe it or not, achieving your professional goals and a healthy income doesn’t require sacrificing your well-being or family time.

Final Thought

It’s all about balance. By taking care of yourself and managing your workload, you can be the best version of yourself at work and home. Your family will thank you, and you’ll feel more fresh, focused, and fulfilled and perform better in both areas.

This week, after a couple of months of coaching, my client said:

"Really simple adaptations over a short timeframe have made for huge improvements for me and my family.

Small changes mean I no longer feel like a husk when I get home from work, meaning I can contribute positively to the home environment.

Small steps-big leaps."
