A simple way to find more balance

99-SECOND READ

'Balance is not something you find, it's something you create.'

Jana Kingsford.

Often, the things that make the biggest difference are simple. They are the things we already know, but don’t consistently do.

This week is about bringing things back to that.

In your work or business, you’ve learned the value of being organised, planned and prepared. You don’t leave things entirely to chance, because you know that clear thinking and forward planning lead to better outcomes. It is a skill you’ve built over time, and one you rely on.

Yet outside of work, it is surprisingly easy to neglect the same approach. Life becomes reactive. Weeks fill up without much thought, and before you know it, time has gone to things you didn’t consciously choose.

A simple shift can change that.

Set aside time once a week to sit down with your partner and look ahead at the next couple of weeks. Not in an overcomplicated way, but just enough to ask: what do we want more of, and what do we need to be prepared for? It might be making space for time together, planning around busy periods, or being intentional about rest, fitness, or social time.

Then, every few months, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Where are you heading this year? What actually matters to you right now? What are you prioritising, and what might need to change?

These conversations are not just practical. They are connective.

When you approach life as a team, working towards shared goals, something shifts. It becomes more enjoyable, more aligned, and often brings you closer together. You start to build a life that reflects what you both actually want, rather than one that happens by default.

If you have a partner or family, treat it like a team effort. Use the same skills you already apply so effectively at work and bring them into your personal life.

If you live alone, the principle still applies. Have these check-ins with yourself, or even with a close friend. The structure matters less than the intention behind it.

It might not sound groundbreaking, but taking the time to plan and organise your life is one of the most impactful habits you can build.
