5 lessons for overworkers

'Do not overwork the mind any more than the body; do everything with moderation.'

Francis Bacon

Here are 5 key insights that my clients had in 2023:

  1. Giving to yourself isn't selfish - it enables you to show up as the best version of yourself for the people you love the most. Give yourself the things you need - a break, exercise, sleep, a downtime to shine brighter, for the people who need you.
  2. You have probably overlooked most of what you have achieved - focusing on your problems, mistakes or failures hammers your self-confidence and happiness. Remind yourself every day what you are good at, what you have done well and what you are grateful for. Before you know it, your self-belief and self-esteem will grow and you won't feel the need to prove yourself so much.
  3. You are working hard so that you can be happy. But, you can have all the happiness you want right now, if you take your foot off the gas and slow down enough to enjoy it. You can have more quality time with the people you love, you can take better care of your health and do more things you love.
  4. You don't owe your employer anything, you aren’t 'lucky' to have that job - you earned it. Stop feeling compelled to give give give to work, and realise that they already get plenty of the most valuable thing you possess - your time! As soon as you truly value yourself and your time, you will command more respect, results and remuneration.
  5. Your job didn’t cause the challenges you face. You create your challenges, and they will follow you wherever you go unless you deal with the real cause. Your challenges come down to the beliefs you have about yourself and the world, these beliefs were formed throughout your life and they inform the decisions you make and the actions you take. Change your beliefs and your challenges will disappear.

Understanding these points is one thing, addressing them is another.
