Hard choices, easy life. Easy choices, hard life.

'Hard choices, easy life. Easy choices, hard life'

Jerzy Gregorek

This powerful quote highlights the importance of making hard choices. Our survival instincts cause us to distance ourselves from anything that is scary, threatening or painful. This often leads to us making easy choices such as putting off taking actions (making hard choices) that scare us …

For example:

  • Remaining in a stressful or unrewarding job
  • Constantly working excessive hours
  • Sticking with a career path that’s unfulfilling

Doing the above can feel like you’re not making a choice because you’re simply continuing with your current path. But not taking action is a choice. An easy choice.

And doing this makes life much harder in the long run; causing stress, resentment, frustration, and creating poor health and discontentment.

If you want to learn how to overcome your fear and make hard choices, watch this TED talk by Tim Ferris.

I have created a downloadable version of the Fear Setting exercise that Tim talks about in the above video. Click here to download it.
