Discover the 10 Areas of Your Life

99-SECOND READ

'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes'

Marcel Proust

Did you know your life can be divided into 10 key areas?

  1. Family
  2. Friendships
  3. Work & Career
  4. Health & fitness
  5. Finances & security
  6. Passions & hobbies
  7. Home & environment
  8. Romantic relationships
  9. Activities, experiences & adventure
  10. Personal development, purpose & meaning

How satisfied are you with each of these areas of your life?

For most people, there is a large variation, with some areas being very well-satisfied, and others barely at all. Everyone needs different things to be fulfilled in these areas, and each area varies in its importance from person to person. If you want to find out more – read my blog post: Why you should aspire to live a balanced life.

Focusing too heavily on one area causes a negative impact on others.

For most people, Work & Career takes up the largest portion of time, while for some it can take over altogether, as they prioritise it above most of the other areas.

This happens for several reasons:

  1. They get a sense of purpose, growth or validation through work that they can’t find in other areas of their life
  2. They are overly focused on achieving wealth or status
  3. They please people – struggling to manage the expectations of colleagues and employers

Consider that you cannot compensate for a lack in one area by improving another. It just doesn’t work that way.

What are the top three areas you would like to improve?

What do you think is really stopping you?
