Want more peace?

99-SECOND READ

'Peace is not the highest goal in life. It is the most fundamental requirement. '

Sadhguru

Whatever you've got going on in life, I bet you would like to feel more peaceful.

Peace is bliss: calm, clarity, love and contentment.

It's easy to forget that inner peace doesn't come from your environment. I've experienced peace in thunderstorms, London commutes and on the back of a motorbike taxi zipping precariously through the manic streets of Hanoi city, Northern Vietnam. I've also felt stress, doubt and turmoil lying on my bed or a beach.

Peace comes from the inside. It can only be destroyed by concerns or worries about what we're experiencing or what could happen to us; usually, things that we can't fully control.

We can create inner peace by accepting experiences instead of labelling them as good or bad. In doing this, we let go of the stress and tension.

Here are two objective truths to focus on that will help you let go:

  1. Worrying about what will happen only causes me pain.
  2. Nothing that happens to me is ultimately good or bad.

Reflect on that.

Some things may seem bad in the moment, yes. But ultimately, all events, even bad ones, create something good. It's inevitable.

Life is full of millions of chain reactions that cannot be predicted.

Whether you're worried about losing your job, a breakup, rain, or your offer on that house not getting excepted. There will always be good that will follow.

One missed opportunity leads you to another.

One bad experience teaches you a lesson and makes you stronger.

Overcoming adversity is deeply rewarding.

Understanding this empowers you to let go of labelling experiences. Then you can accept, embrace and love the infinite experiences and possibilities.

Then you can feel at peace.

This doesn't happen overnight, it takes practice and patience. So let go of that expectation right now, embrace the journey and see what happens.
