The Magic Question

99-SECOND READ

'It is okay to question yourself, but never okay to doubt yourself.'

Jeffrey Fry

In my last blog I highlighted the importance and power of positive self-talk and promised to share a magic question.

The key message was:

If you learn to speak to yourself with the same love and lack of judgement as you do with your friends, you will immediately feel more positive, empowered and confident. You will love yourself more, and you will get better results in all areas of life.

In short: improve your self-talk, improve your life.

In my coaching sessions, people open up about their challenges. They talk about the things they are doing wrong, their lack of motivation, discipline or progress, procrastination and disorganisation. I help them explore this deeply, and when the time is right, I ask them, the following magic question:

If a friend told you everything you've just told me, what would you say to them?

Then, in that moment, their expression changes - sometimes they laugh, or sigh, or cry. Because they realise they haven't given themselves credit for all they've overcome or recognised all that they are doing. They find compassion for themselves, and immediately they feel better, they feel lighter and they believe in themselves again.

This is the work I do. I create warm, sportive spaces for people to explore and shift their perspective - to give them huge mental breakthroughs and clarity that stays with them forever. Hence these quotes....

"It was as though a light switch had been flicked and everything about what I am and do, seemed to make sense again." - Alex

"I honestly felt like something had unlocked within me and I sought out opportunities that were in front of me all along but I never reached for." - Shabari

Whenever you are feeling down or judging yourself, ask yourself this question.
